Worship Announcements

EASTER FLOWERS! Please help adorn our sanctuary on Easter as you honor or remember a special someone in your life or in the life of our church. We are offering pots of tulips for $10 and pots of geraniums for $7. Both can be planted in your home gardens. Order forms are in the Welcome Center. Orders are due by Sunday, March 30th and can be placed in the secretary’s mailbox or in the offering plate. Thank you!
 

Mission Opportunities

Many folks have asked about donating funds to help those affected by the California Wildfires. During the Lenten Season we will be receiving donations, alongside the whole Virginia UMC family, to show financial and missional care for our neighbors in California, as they rebuild and recover from the devastating wildfires. All checks can be made out to Bethany with the memo line: California Wildfire Relief.
 
EASTER CANDY NEEDED – We need LOTS of prewrapped candy to fill Easter Eggs for our community event and Easter Sunday here at Bethany. Please make sure candy will fit inside a plastic egg. There is a blue tub in the Welcome Center for donations which can be brought in at any time.
 
Mark your calendar now, as we will be hosting our next Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, June 6th from 10-4pm in the Social Hall.
 
We will be hosting our “Christmas in July” Yard Sale on Saturday, July 26th at the Weyers Cave Community Center from 8am-1pm. All proceeds will go to help our September Honduras Mission Team. Please continue bringing in any Christmas decorations, inside or outside, that you would like to donate. You can put them in the Social Hall and they will be organized and stored for the July Yard Sale. At the yard sale, we will also be selling BBQ sandwiches, hosting a bake sale, and selling table space for members and community members to sell their own stuff.   • Easter Choir Practice – Wednesday, March 12th from 6:30pm-7:45pm
  • Pastor Blaine will be having Coffee Hours at Valley Pike Thursday, March 13th from 9:30am-12pm. So come and grab a cup of coffee, tea, or even some ice cream!
  • Donuts & Devotions – Saturday, March 15th 8:00am, all men are encouraged to attend.
  • Softball Practice – Sunday, March 16th 4:30pm at the lower softball field in the Weyers Cave Ruritan Park
  • Lenten Book Study – Monday, March 17th at 10am and 6pm (March 24th, March 31st)
  • April Echo articles deadline – Monday, March 17th

  • Young Adults – Friday, March 21st at 7pm, Beards & Broads Axe Throwing, Harrisonburg
  • New Hope Ruritan Breakfast – Saturday, March 22nd from 7:30 – 10:00am at New Hope Community Center
  • Youth Gathering – Sunday, March 23rd from 4 – 6pm at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, in Weyers Cave. All youth, middle and high school, are encouraged to attend this gathering as we collaborate with the youth of Pleasant Valley COB.
  • Worship Committee Meeting – Monday, March 24th at 7:00pm
  • BETHANY COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT – Saturday, April 12 – 10:00 a.m. Weyers Cave Community Center – We hope everyone will make themselves available for this out-reach event. This may be the ONLY moment in many families’ Easter celebration where the true meaning is taught and celebrated and where they hear the name, JESUS. We need folks willing to assist with crafts, serve refreshments, hide eggs and just be there to meet and greet our neighbors. An organizational meeting is coming and then we will need everyone to help. Sign-up sheet is at the Welcome Center.

Other Announcements

Warm weather is just around the corner and so is church softball season. Bethany’s softball team will start practicing Sunday, March 16th @ 4:30 pm at the lower softball field in Weyers Cave Ruritan Park. The season games will begin April 28th and run through the summer. This is a co-ed league and persons 14 years-old and up may be a part of our team. Any questions can be directed to Pastor Blaine.
 
We are currently looking for a new Office Manager here at Bethany UMC! The successful candidate will maintain office hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Salary is based on qualifications and experience. If there are any folks that you know of that might be interested in the position please have them apply on Indeed or they may send their resume with a cover letter, and three references to Randy Roller (rroller74@gmail.com) and Rev. Blaine Oliver-Thomas (blaineoliver-thomas@vaumc.org).
 
We are blessed to have flowers up front for our worship services and offer our appreciation to Nancy Colvin and Elizabeth Williams for their artistic talent in creating beautiful arrangements. If you would like to provide flowers for a special occasion or just want to contribute at any time please contact the church office and they will direct you to the right folks.
 
In an effort to encourage involvement with our youth, the church office would like to hear from our youth parents. It has been suggested that we publish a list of events that our youth are involved in so that Bethany members can support our youth in their endeavors. If you are willing to share this information to our members email your child’s schedule to the church office (office.bethany@gmail.com)
 
It’s that time of year again!! Time to mow! We are looking for folks to sign up for a month (April – October) to mow the church lawn. We have a zero-turn mower and gas will be reimbursed (with receipts). You can mow when it suits you (except on Sunday mornings). If you enjoy being outside, please prayerfully consider if this is something you can do. There will be substitutes if you need to miss a week. There will be a sign-up sheet at the Welcome Center. Please also be in prayer for Halle, the grandchild of Kelli Huffer’s co-worker. Prayers for Tyler Michael, son of Jeff and Amie Michael, relation to the Moyer’s family.
 
Church Youth Activities
 
Addyson Mooney & Macey Ann Frizzelle – Tennis match, Tuesday, March 18th at Fort Defiance HS. Matches start around 4:30-5pm and could last until 7:30-9pm. Doubles are played first followed by singles. Lori suggests that you bring your own chair. Addyson went to the state competition last school year. Come out and support Addyson and Macey Ann on the 18th!
